FMCA VANCOUVER ISLANDERS’ SEAL BAY RALLY
(In on July 26, 2016 and out July 29, 2016)
Mama Mia we are such a small group coming out to play and dine!!!
The following members have committed to attend:
Sandy and Wayne Quesnel
Barbara Lucas
Darlene & Clarence Zimmerman
Linda & George O’Brian
Judy & Roy Fedirchuk
Frances & Lance McGill
Dianne & Don Norman
Lynda & Keith Daniel
As we keep hearing that we might have postal service or we might not, I thought it wise to touch base with our membership and encourage those of you interested in attending the Seal Bay rally to get in touch with me.
If your name is not listed above and you have sent me your cheque, let me know.
Just a few reminders of information needed with your cheque:
I need the length of the coach you are bringing.
If you want to stencil a T-shirt with Darlene, let us know so Darlene can organize enough stencils and paints for everyone. BRING YOUR OWN COTTON OR COTTON BLEND T-SHIRT.
Don’t forget Sandy’s fun painting class – let us know if you want to take part so Sandy can pick up enough canvas and paints for the group.
FOR OUR SINGLES: I am sorry we forgot to put a cost in our e-mail for you. The single cost to attend the rally would be $162.50 ($130.00 for camping and ½ fee for the meals).
The cut off for this rally is not until July 18th and the postal situation may be all ironed out by then, however, I still encourage those of you interested in attending to get in touch with me either by phone at: 250-758-5393 or e-mail at: danielden@shaw.ca
For anyone wishing to drop a cheque off at our home, there is a secure mailbox on our front gate at: 340 CARNOUSTIE PLACE NANAIMO BC V9T 4J1
Once we know how many members we have attending, Sandy will be in touch with you regarding meal planning.
Looking forward to seeing many of you there, Lynda and Keith Daniel, Sandy & Wayne Quesnel, and Darlene & Clarence Zimmerman (rally hosts)

Rally Sites:
We still need sites
for future rallies. Someone from the executive must be involved to
reserve sites or to enter into a contract on behalf of the Vancouver
Islanders. Sites suggested include: Cluxewe in Campbell River,
Qualicum Bay, Parry’s in Parksville, Pedder Bay, Living Forest,
Coombs fairgrounds or rodeo grounds, and Saanich fairgrounds.
Membership:
Barbara L contacted
the 13 new FMCA members on Vancouver Island in the past year,
inviting them to our chapter and sending them a brochure. We had 3
families join in the last year: Alice & Ronald Berrecloth, Bruce
& Cathie Woodrow, and Rita Roy. We’ve had 2 families leave.
Roy & Deb Towne sold their motorhome, and Martin & Jacky
Thomas asked to be taken off our lists. We now have 72 members in
total.
Barbara updated our
chapter brochure, sending it out to the membership. She has printed
copies available here, along with an FMCA brochure, to give to anyone
you think might be interested in the FMCA or our chapter.
In order to
advertise our rallies with FMCA, we need to be able to give them the
rally dates, location, reservation deadline, host phone number and
email. For printing in Family Motor Coaching they need 2
months’ lead time. Also, any rallies that we advertise with the
FMCA have to be open to all motorhome owners, whether or not they are
FMCA members. If we are able to book rally sites a year ahead, that
will help with the advertising.
Rally Hosts: Sandy
needs help hosting the Seal Bay rally on July 26th –
29th. Don & Bev Purdey and Linda Daniels volunteered
to help.
Name Badges: We
can’t get the same badges from the supplier we have used in the
past. He can make aluminum badges, but they aren’t acceptable.
Paul has found a supplier who can make badges similar to the ones we
have now. But a minimum number of badges must be ordered. If anyone
can find another source, please let Sandy know by June 10. Wayne H
will inquire about the template from the past supplier.
New Business
Executive board
meeting: Sandy reported on the meeting.
Although the
secretary requested hiring someone to produce better quality graphic
files of our logo, the board was happy with our current artwork.
The executive agreed
to give a $50 stipend to each rally host as incentive and partial
compensation for the host’s personal costs. Rita Roy moved that
the chapter provide a stipend of $100 for each rally host. Carried.
Parking: Wayne H
noted that early arrivals and expecting specific sites cause
problems. Some sites with electricity need to be reserved for those
with medical needs. Members should respect that the hosts have a lot
of work to do before the scheduled time for campers to arrive. Any
special needs should be conveyed to the hosts in advance.
15th
Anniversary next year: Sandy would like to have a formal, catered
dinner to celebrate in May 2017 and invite all past Vancouver
Islanders. The chapter’s photo albums will be digitized and slides
shown at the rally. Email any rally photos to Marge. Please put
some thought into what you would like to see at that rally and let
the executive board know.
Membership: Kathie
B has door hangars available from the NW Area for letting people know
about the FMCA.
September Rally:
Will be held in the Scout Hall, which can hold 60 people. RV parking
will be at the North end by the Scout Hall.
Wayne will purchase
fire extinguishers for the club.
Kathie B moved that
the chapter buy a defibrillator and get the chapter trained to use
it. Rita volunteered to look into it.
Elections
Jim Barber, Matt
Blogg, and Wayne Hendricks were acclaimed as Vice Presidents for
2-year terms.
Barbara Lucas was
acclaimed as Secretary for a 2-year term.
Andy Balogh was
acclaimed as National Director for a 2-year term.
Sandy moved that the
chapter buy a new printer that does double-sided printing for the
secretary’s use. Carried.
The meeting was
adjourned at 10:57 am.
Barbara Lucas,
Secretary

Buttle Lake Rally June 13-17 almost full.
Western Rally at Cowichan Exhibition Park Report
In Duncan May 28 -30, 2016
We enjoyed a potluck with Roast Chicken provided the first evening. Pass the Ace followed.
Our first breakfast of Oatmeal, Sunny Boy and fruit compote with ice cream set us up for the day. We needed that fuel in the afternoon, when we started throwing Cow Pies! Beef Pot Roast with baked potatoes, veggies and fruit pies with ice cream were on the menu that evening and Horse Races later, where we could win some cash! Winners of the Best Cowgirl and Cowboy outfits were Audrey Hauge and Barry Delege and they received $25 gift cards. Well done!
Second breakfast was French toast with bacon and all the sides. A quick Executive Meeting was held in Matt Bloggs' new Dutchstar. Nice rig Matt! Most of us joined the Crib Tournament that afternoon and evening. The tournament was won by new member Rick Woodrow and he received a $25 gift card. That evening we had Pork Loin with buns, veggies and Cole Slaw and dessert of Berry Brown Betty for dinner. The Ken Williams Memorial Award for the free rally was won by Jim and Eileen Sharples. Glad to see some longstanding members finally get it! Again, some lively Pass the Ace to finish the evening.
Sunday morning we enjoyed biscuits and gravy with sausages. Immediately after breakfast we proceeded with the annual General Meeting. Highlights are that the Executive all stays the same for another year and we have started the plans for a BIG PARTY for the May rally next year to celebrate our 15th Anniversary!
In the afternoon very entertaining Swing Golf was played. When the Swing Golf moved inside because of weather, it was so much easier to score! John VanSchaik was the winner and received a $25 gift card. Dinner was Hamburgers with veggies followed by cake and ice cream and then an evening on our own.
Monday morning everyone enjoyed the Continental breakfast and we were all packed up and gone in good time!
Many thanks to the VanSchaiks and Schwagleys!
