Sandys Scribbles: the end of 2010

Wayne and I are off to our southern home tomorrow and I wanted to pass on my appreciation for a really great 2010. We had a few more rallies than normal, and I am hoping for even more next year. I think every one of our rallies was fantastic and we had a fun weekend every time we went out with the club. Our Chapter managed to gather 23 new members this year, a truly amazing increase!

During 2010 our chapter has been participating in a challenge. FMCA offered a $250 gift package to every chapter that recruited 12 new FMCA members. Not Chapter members but new members to FMCA. Right now we are 2 short of the goal. Everyone would benefit if we could just recruit 2 more. Sooooo ....... I am asking each of you to consider your neighbour, a friend, a relative or anyone you might meet that we could sign up with FMCA and then qualify for our gift package. We all would appreciate the efforts.

A few corrections to the new roster you should have received by now:

Cliff & Lynda Garbutt – house number should be 1708

Bob & Jan Orr – Email should be bnjay@shaw.ca

Well here it is, so Merry, Merry, Happy, Happy and a great winter to everyone. We are looking forward to seeing you all in 2011.

Seal Bay Rally Pics & Report

Seal Bay Rally

For those of us who braved the weather, it was a great weekend in Courtenay. The rally crew got the main tent and a cook tent set up early and later added walls and the lights to keep out the damp, dark and cool. The campground has nice sites and a beautiful man-made lake to stroll around. The owner delivered a huge fire ring and free firewood. It was a good location, but in a year will be a great location as improvements are made.

30 coaches were registered and 28 attended. We started off with a lively “meet and greet” on Friday and then an absolutely HUGE pot luck dinner with decadent Black Forest Cake for dessert. Some of us would have snuck off for a nap after the big meal but Mick had us curious about his Trivia night. Wow! He had some hard questions for us! And some great prizes! A guest, Victoria Keel, managed to get more right than the rest of us, and congratulations to her! She is really smart! A few of us followed up the Trivia with some “Pass the Ace”.

Saturday started off with another meal to knock your socks off. Ham, bacon, sausages, eggs to order and pancakes. Hot Maple syrup..... what can I say ..... another 5 pounds. Following brekkie, a few, we know who..... went off to check out the garage sales, a few went exploring and after lunch a few of us played “Pegs & Jokers”. I should have gone to a gym to make room for dinner. Roast Beef, Yorkshire Pudding, potatoes, gravy, corn, pickle and veggie trays, followed by hot Apple Pies and Ice Cream. THEN, THEN – Birthday Cake!!! The campground owners joined us for dinner and then stayed to play Bingo. Wouldn’t you know, Theresa, owner, won the $90 for the 50/50 draw and Paul, owner, won a big prize at Bingo! We enjoyed their company and were glad to share! New members, Ken & Jennifer Harlos won the Ken Williams award and very generously donated it back to the club.

Sunday we enjoyed a continental breakfast, fresh fruit, muffins, croissants, and yoghurt before packing up the tents. With the whole crew helping it was done in record time and we had fun doing it. I always hate to come home and can hardly wait for the next one!

The rallies scheduled at this time for 2011 are Sydney on May 27, 28 and 29th. Port Hardy on July 17, 18 19 and 20th. I would really appreciate suggestions of rally sites for June, August and September. I will try for Cowichan Bay again when the date is closer.
