Qualicum Bay Rally
For this rally we have reserved the field for dry camping and the covered BBQ cook-out with electricity and water nearby, in the Native Campground at Qualicum Bay. The use of generators is limited to only between 10 AM and 4 PM, so we felt renting the cook-out would be justified.
Included in your rally fees will be:
-4 nights camping fees ($78 per coach) with use of the cook-out
-2 hearty breakfasts, 1 continental breakfast (1 on your own)
-2 dinners, and 2 contribution dinners.
The cost: $120 payable by cheque to:
Sandy Quesnel
4870 Marshall Road
Duncan, BC, V9L 6T3
Cut-off date July 6th when I leave on holidays, late cheques will not be accepted and will be returned when I get back from holidays!
The area is beautiful for walking and the ocean is close (you can see the cruise ships passing). Things happening in the area while we are there: Sandcastles at Parksville, Music Fest at Coombs, Milner Gardens Art Show, Erringtron Farm Market (several other close communities have their Farm Markets on Saturdays as well) and of course the Garage Sales in Parksville/Qualicum are phenomenal! Hope to see you there!

Cowichan Exhibition Rally
Rally at the Cowichan Exhibition Grounds May 25, 26 & 27
Saturday morning breakfast, many thanks to Bart & Linda Verruyt, was bountiful, with Pancakes, fruit, sausage, scrambled eggs and juices. Of course, you were able to top any and all with whipped cream! At 10 AM Allysa and Ashley from Island Savings Credit Union, Chemainus, arrived and we had a very interesting and informative discussion about travel, medical and RV insurance. They did a great job and some of us learned a few things and a few of us won prizes. The old saying that “you can’t teach old dog new tricks” did not hold true, but I think the young ladies were starting to wonder! Afterwards, Gary Giles kindly had a “Batteries” session, especially helpful to those who were having problems.
During the afternoon, some went exploring or to the Farmers Market, some of us stayed and played games.
Dinner Saturday evening was another feast, many thanks to Don & Bev Purdy. Roast chickens, baked potatoes with all the fixin’s, Cole slaw, buns and beautiful Apple and Lemon meringue pies. Everyone went back to their rigs with leftover chicken and full tummies. It was a beautiful evening for a few campfires or just sitting and visiting. Some of us played a few rounds of “Pass the Ace”.
Sunday breakfast was leftover eggs, sausage, fruit, juices, muffins and pastries.
The annual General meeting was very productive. Vancouver Islanders Chapter voted against FMCA membership for towables and also against using current FMCA funds to finance FMCA Assist or other insurance plans. Rally dates and sites were reviewed, with several groups volunteering to organize meals. Sites at the Pacific Playgrounds Rally are being pre-sold with a non-refundable deposit of $25. We will put off responding to the Newmar Kountry Klub re: co-hosting a joint rally until we have more details. Wayne Hendricks was volunteered to have his name put on the club trailer registration. The Ken Williams Award will now be called the Ken Williams Memorial Award. Some of the implications of having guests or Friends and Family rallies were discussed.
Our newly elected Senior Vice President is Linda Verruyt, and 2 new Vice Presidents are Wilf Schlichting and Matt Blogg. Secretary Barb Norton, Vice President Joe Blogg, and Vice President Bob Orr all volunteered to do another term. President Sandy Quesnel and Treasurer Audrey Hauge each have one more year.
The Ken Williams Memorial Award was won by Cliff & Lynda Garbutt, who had their rally fees returned.
Another great rally! Time to start working on the next one!
Full hook-up sites at the Pacific Playgrounds Rally, Sept. 13, 14 and 15th are being pre-sold with a non-refundable deposit of $25. Please send your cheque, well marked, to The Vancouver Islanders, c/o 2815 Trans Canada Highway, Victoria, BC, V9B 6H6

Cowichan Exhibition Grounds Rally
Here we are at the start of yet another season! I hope everyone is healthy, happy and ready to play!
Our first rally will be starting Friday, May 25 at the Cowichan Exhibition Grounds, 7380 Trans Canada Highway, Duncan (see directions below) and leaving Sunday May 27. Anyone wishing to stay over on Sunday night, May 27, may pay at the Grounds.
We do have the use of a building so we can get in the shade if it is too hot.
There will be a pot-luck dinner on Friday night, division of dishes later when we have a head count.
Bart & Linda Verruyt will be organizing a Pancake breakfast for Saturday. Coffee provided.
Don & Bev Purdy will produce a Chicken dinner for Saturday night.
I will order muffins and pastries for Sunday breakfast. Coffee provided.
Of course, we shall try and come up with some kind of interactive entertainment for you all. As well, we could play Pass the Ace and Card Bingo if you wish. Once again, I am attempting to have an insurance agent come and talk to us about Medical Insurance. Hiking trails and the road up to the Cenotaph on Mount Prevost are close by. More wineries, the Birds of Prey refuge and the Forest Museum are also close. There will be horse activities, a dog show and model airplane enthusiasts on the grounds as well, so spectators will be welcome.
The cost of this rally will be $65 PAYABLE BEFORE MAY 15. Anyone using a C PAP please
contact Marge at waymarh@shaw.ca or 250-748-3398
Please send your cheques (BEFORE MAY 15, PLEASE.) payable to The Vancouver Islanders with the length of your coach noted to:
Marge Hendricks
4061 Cambrai Road
Duncan, BC V9L 6G1
Directions: I am sure there are some of you who don't know where the new Cowichan Exhibition grounds are. They are located on the highway north of Duncan but the following are more detailed directions:
If you are travelling from the south go through Duncan and pass by the new Cowichan Commons Mall with Walmart, Canadian Tire on the left. Approximately 4 kilometers north of the mall you will come to a set of lights and a left turn lane which will take you up to the Exhibition grounds.
If you are travelling from the north go over the Chemainus River Bridge, past Russell Farms Market on the right. Go approximately another 5 kilometers and turn right into the Exhibition Park which is at a set of lights.
You will not be allowed into the grounds until 11:00 a.m on the Friday morning. Please don't forget to let us know how long your unit is.
We would also like to mention that generators will be allowed from 7:30 a.m to 8:00 p.m. Please do not run your generator for more than two hours as we all know how annoying they can be when parked next to one running continually.
It is also important that we know of anyone needing to run a C Pap machine during the night so that we can park them accordingly.
