Wayne and I left the Newmar – Kountry Klub Rally at the Vantreight Farm in Saanich, early this morning. Another great rally! Of course, there was wa-a-ay too much food, a whole new group of great cooks! Everyone was well fed, like it or not!

We had a very informative walking tour of the Vantreight greenhouses and area on Friday, which really helped us all understand how you get daffodils to your garden. Also, we were given a little more insight about market gardening. Friday night was crazy gift night and some of them were totally crazy! Gillian Jackson took home a pair of Kangaroos! Afterwards it was music night with many people playing and participating vocally.

Saturday morning we enjoyed break-out sessions and seminars. Information was shared re: RV tires, RV windows, computer security and how to maintain and repair RV blinds. Many women enjoyed card making classes and we each came away with 3 great cards we made ourselves. Everyone was then bussed into Sydney for a FREE, yes read FREE lunch provided by Traveland of Langley, who sell and sponsor Newmar. A visit to the new Marine Discovery Centre and some shopping rounded out the day. Saturday night dinner, a choice of steak or salmon, included all you could eat, fresh, corn on the cob and newly harvested potatoes, all supplied by the Vantreight Farms. Fabulous! Some of the ugliest hats and ties I have ever seen showed up for dinner. Ken Williams and Martin Thomas shared first place and Bruce Morin was a close runner up. How is it that the Islanders had the ugliest men??? Kathie Balogh was 2nd place with her ugly hat but was bested by a cow girl! !!???

Again, the weather held beautifully, only raining during the night.

I have received news that the Luxton Fairgrounds are definitely booked for our rally the last weekend of May, 2010. Norm & Nora Winter, Russ & Carol McAvella and Wayne & Joan Hardy will be co-hosts. Brian and Lynda Bowden and Randy & Barb Cooper are trying to get us into a campground at Buttle Lake a little later. There has been some discussion this may turn into a roving rally, with the group hitting sites farther north as well. Always fun. As everyone enjoyed the site so much, I will book the Riverside RV Campground in Duncan again if it has not sold and closed. Can a few of you please help out and try to line up 2 more sites for next year? We do NOT need anyone to step up as hosts, just book some more sites. Let me know at skew67@hughes.net if you can find somewhere suitable.

Wayne and I are now on our way, hoping to stay where it is warm and sunny, a little longer. We are not tolerant of much rain and snow now that we are full-timing.

News from the September Easter Seal Camp Rally

Many thanks to Marge & Wayne Hendricks and Susan & John Van Schaik for such a good rally. They all did a really great job of it. The weather held beautifully, with a few sprinkles during the night on Sunday and otherwise warm and dry. The Easter Seal Camp is a very nice site for a rally.

We started Friday night with one of our over-the-top potluck suppers. The amount of food we consume always overwhelms me and we are all such wonderful cooks!

Saturday started with a light continental breakfast, lunch on our own and then Randy and Barb Cooper got a lot of us playing a tourney of lawn games. The weather was very warm; some of us couldn’t quite finish and had to ask for replacements. My team ended up with “Lois” who was such a good sport and kept us all trying harder. It was very competitive, but Wayne Quesnel was in first place for the men and I !!!! took first place for the women!!! The cash entry fee was bonus prizes. Team mate “Lois” was given an exceptional award of NEW??!! SHOES and we all appreciated Wolf Schlicting helping us out.

Singer/entertainer “Andy” who also joined us last year, performed in the school hall and music and dancing was really enjoyed .

Sunday morning we all waited with anticipation for John & Sue’s Mystery breakfast. It was unusual but everyone enjoyed it. I have never eaten oatmeal with ice cream.

Lorne & Evelyn Campbell and Gus Strand escorted a large group to the Kinsol Trestle. A very nice walk and wonderful impressive scenery.

Sunday was to be a quiet evening but, a very boisterous group played a game of Bean Bag Baseball until dark. My team won and I loved it!! Somebody is still stinging about losing! A few hands of Pass the Ace and some Dominoes finished out the evening.

Clean up and pack up was done quickly on Monday and we were on the road!

Wow! What a rally! My legs feel about 6 inches high, but I am still moving! First, all of the Rally Hosts want to thank EVERYONE! All of the help was very much appreciated. If you have pictures send them on. Gary does a great job of the blogspot for us!

Next, be sure you have your $60.00 to:

Marge Hendricks, 4061 Cambrai Road, Duncan, BC, V9L 6G1 by Sept. 1st, so that you can get in on the Shawnigan Lake Rally.

We had a total of 26 rigs attend the Duncan Rally, with 5 cancellations in the last few days. We missed the Morins, Ouseys and McAvellas. We wanted to meet new members, Wolgang and Dagmar Bieman and prior members, Doug and Verena Bridges. Hopefully, all of you will make the September rally and can join in our fun!

We welcomed a few new members, Janet Hodgins & Fred Ebdrup and Ken & Paulette Thomsen as well as prior members who returned, Peter & Lenie Johnson and Gary & Janet Dillon. I think we fed them well and showed them a good time ....... we will see if they come back ....... maybe we scared them off!

Everyone enjoyed our location. We were a little spread out, but the surroundings were great. The sitings included River Otters, Mink and the fire department. There was a small fire on the other side of the river! We had a short business meeting Friday morning, making a few decisions about the trailer and suggestions for rally sites. I forgot to draw the name of the Ken Williams Award Winners! And no one reminded me!

So the Hosts have done it now, and the winner is Mick & Val Hargreaves. Congratulations! I will forward a cheque to you today with your refund of rally fees.

Gale Dyer, Linda Williams, Linda Bowden and Mick Hargreaves all took prizes home from the card tournament. Please note, I very kindly didn’t say who won a prize for what. I think everyone playing had a great time and I will bring the cards along next time, so practice being quiet until then.

Our first baseball game was a disaster with the 12 Men thoroughly whooping the 12 Women. I must say tho’ some of the women made some spectacular plays! I was very proud of them. Didn’t the guys always get more practice in as kids? I don’t know why they felt so proud of themselves, whooping a few old women at their game! We mixed things up a bit for the next game, and things were a little closer. Many thanks to the spectators who cheered us on.

Saturday afternoon was pretty quiet, some off exploring, visiting locally and attending the RCMP Musical Ride, but did I ever come alive in the evening for the Races! Personally, I did quite well on Mama & Baby Joe-leen, and even managed to finance my “Pass the Ace” games later with my winnings.

Sunday morning found us a little damp, but with a hot breakfast in our tummies, we were soon packed up .... but slow to leave!
