European Vacation Sept 14-18

Come one, come all on a European Vacation with your fellow Vancouver Islanders at Seal Bay RV Park in the Comox Valley from September 14 to 18, 2015!

Laurel has put together a European-themed rally filled with fabulous food and loads of fun.  There will be a cribbage tournament, trivia, bingo, bocce ball, cork trivet making, and a special Afternoon Tea.

Lady Laurel of Pointe and the Earl Wayne of Scotting will host the Tea on the first day.  You (or your royal  personage) are welcome to attend.  Ladies are urged to design and wear a hat, or fascinator, that includes a piece of recycled garbage (something you would put in your recycling bin).  Lady Laurel requests no green bin scraps, e.g., no meat hats (lol).  The winning headpiece will be chosen by attendees.

Partners will be chosen at random for the cribbage tournament, which will be held the first day of the rally.  More fun events await your participation.

Make your plans now to attend the Vancouver Islanders’ European Vacation.  Since only 32 sites are reserved for Vacationers, be sure you are included in the fun!

The reservations process is a bit different this year, as Seal Bay RV has asked Lady Laurel to gather all the information from us, and she will pass it on to them.  She will also coordinate any extra days before and after the rally that you want to stay at Seal Bay.  RV sites rates are $33.30 for full hookups and $30 for no hookups per night (a sanidump is available).  Rally costs aren’t finalized yet, but are estimated at $80-90.

Update Cowichan Bay Rally August 6-10

Let's be Nauti!  Cowichan Bay Rally August 6-10 is coming together.  This is a completely dry site.  No power, no water, no dump.

The rally fee is $98. which includes 4 nights parking and rally fees for 2 people.  Singles will be cost $78.   

A few of us are taking a cruise from Cowichan Bay to Genoa Bay Cafe for lunch on Friday...cost is $10 per person for the boat ride. If you are interested in joining us please email and let me know....so I can book numbers for the boat.

Sandy Scribbles Again

Hello Everyone! During the annual General  Meeting held during the Survivor Rally at the Cowichan Exhibition Grounds, once again the Executive roster has changed!  At this time I must apologize for not sitting everyone down at the rally for a formal “Thank You” to Joe Blogg for his service as President to our Vancouver Islanders Chapter of FMCA.  Thank you, Joe, for a job well done.  It was a busy rally for both Joe and I, making it hard to get together.
 I loved the job as President of the Chapter previously, and decided some time ago that I would like to do it again.  Thank you to everyone who offered support and encouragement.  Another change to the roster…Bob Orr has stepped down as a Vice President and Jim Barber is going to take his place.  Audrey Hauge has taken on another term as Treasurer, thank you, Audrey, and Wayne Quesnel will continue as Alternate National Director. Other items of interest at the meeting included the release of the Roster to Chapter Membership and more stringent dog and generator rules. Dogs and generators are the biggest problems for any rally and no matter how it is handled they can still be a problem. As always, we are searching for rally sites.

If laughter truly is the best medicine, a few of us are going to be healthy for months now!

Our first rally of 2015 was based on the popular TV show “Survivor”.  The past season ended the night before the rally started, so was appropriate.  An easy rally to do because Survivor players each get 1 cup of rice each day for meals.  I received phone calls about THAT immediately!  We tried to include some rice in the entrée, dessert or snack each day, otherwise I think everyone did get good food.

We had 25 coaches and 32 players.  Once the tribes were chosen, players were each given a torch and a buff.  Occasional “tree mail” gave hints of challenges to come.  Little clues helped players find Hidden Immunity Idols and board & card game players had a chance to win clues to find Idols.  The challenges were not easy and tribes quickly discovered which of their players were truly “challenged!” as all of us are at some things.  Tribal Council was held after every challenge and players from each losing team had their torches “snuffed”. Watching the players compete was hilarious, the determination and competiveness was extreme!  The purple tribe did well, winning 5 challenges in a row.  That was enough to decimate the other tribes as they were each required to vote off two members at a time.  Eventually 3 tribes merged and were still battling a mostly complete purple tribe.   Even as the tribes were dissolved and challenges became individual, purple protected each other.  Barbara Lucas was the first to win the Individual Immunity Necklace and looked great wearing it.  Gary Giles won the Frozen Tshirt challenge, which was brutal, with a lot of hard work, and looked pretty good in the necklace as well!  The last 8 Survivors made up the Jury and each voted for the winner. Congratulations to Barb Lucas, the final Survivor.  She played hard and she played well, using strategy and determination yet building a wonderful rapport with her tribe. 

A reminder of the Port Alberni Rally, coming early July.  Details will be available soon.  This will be another fun rally, please plan to attend.  We are working on a rally for early August, details to follow and don’t forget Seal Bay in mid September.
