Rally at the Cowichan Exhibition Grounds May 25, 26 & 27
Saturday morning breakfast, many thanks to Bart & Linda Verruyt, was bountiful, with Pancakes, fruit, sausage, scrambled eggs and juices. Of course, you were able to top any and all with whipped cream! At 10 AM Allysa and Ashley from Island Savings Credit Union, Chemainus, arrived and we had a very interesting and informative discussion about travel, medical and RV insurance. They did a great job and some of us learned a few things and a few of us won prizes. The old saying that “you can’t teach old dog new tricks” did not hold true, but I think the young ladies were starting to wonder! Afterwards, Gary Giles kindly had a “Batteries” session, especially helpful to those who were having problems.
During the afternoon, some went exploring or to the Farmers Market, some of us stayed and played games.
Dinner Saturday evening was another feast, many thanks to Don & Bev Purdy. Roast chickens, baked potatoes with all the fixin’s, Cole slaw, buns and beautiful Apple and Lemon meringue pies. Everyone went back to their rigs with leftover chicken and full tummies. It was a beautiful evening for a few campfires or just sitting and visiting. Some of us played a few rounds of “Pass the Ace”.
Sunday breakfast was leftover eggs, sausage, fruit, juices, muffins and pastries.
The annual General meeting was very productive. Vancouver Islanders Chapter voted against FMCA membership for towables and also against using current FMCA funds to finance FMCA Assist or other insurance plans. Rally dates and sites were reviewed, with several groups volunteering to organize meals. Sites at the Pacific Playgrounds Rally are being pre-sold with a non-refundable deposit of $25. We will put off responding to the Newmar Kountry Klub re: co-hosting a joint rally until we have more details. Wayne Hendricks was volunteered to have his name put on the club trailer registration. The Ken Williams Award will now be called the Ken Williams Memorial Award. Some of the implications of having guests or Friends and Family rallies were discussed.
Our newly elected Senior Vice President is Linda Verruyt, and 2 new Vice Presidents are Wilf Schlichting and Matt Blogg. Secretary Barb Norton, Vice President Joe Blogg, and Vice President Bob Orr all volunteered to do another term. President Sandy Quesnel and Treasurer Audrey Hauge each have one more year.
The Ken Williams Memorial Award was won by Cliff & Lynda Garbutt, who had their rally fees returned.
Another great rally! Time to start working on the next one!
