Sandys Scribbles

I am delighted to give a report on the Cowichan Bay Rally. We had 32 rigs attending, including 6 first time attendees who all joined the club.

With very short notice, 12 rigs went into the rally site one day early, and with short notice again, 8 rigs were able to stay at no charge, on Sunday night.

The weather was fantastic but we were lucky to have a breeze and to be able to hide in the shade of the dining tent in the afternoons. Wildlife spotted included seals, an Osprey nest with 2 young ones, an otter family, mink and loons. The roads on the spit make for great walking and the local scenery is beautiful. The general consensus is that we should try and get the site again next year. .

We all enjoyed Chinese take-out on Friday night with pot luck desserts and then some of us managed to drop a few dollars playing Pass the Ace. After a hearty breakfast of bacon and Brookes’ “cooked to order” eggs with hash browns, some people managed to get over to the village of Cowichan Bay itself, and quite a few enjoyed a nice lunch at the Rock Cod Cafe. Saturday afternoon a rousing game of Bean Bag Baseball was played under the tent in the shade and the “boys” beat the “girls” 9 to ?? I can’t seem to remember. Pulled Pork, salads and more pot luck desserts were on the menu Saturday night followed by Seashell races. It seemed like everyone managed to win some kind of door prize and Peter and Lenie Johnson won the Ken Williams Award. Sunday morning we cooked up a whole bunch of pancakes and sausages with fresh blueberries and whipping cream. With the rally officially over those of us who stayed and were not expecting new babies just sat in the sunshine for the rest of the day. Gary and MaryAnn Tennent returned to the site at 1:30 AM that night with the announcement of a new grandson.

This was a totally grand weekend, food and entertainment was hardly necessary when in such beautiful surroundings.

NEXT RALLIES:

Seal Bay Resort in Comox, Sept. 10, 11 and 12.

Newmar and Friends at the VanTreight Daffodil Farm in Saanichton on Sept. 18, 19 and 20th

More info on both will be available soon.

Thank You

A big thank you to Sandy, Wayne, Josie, Ken, Lynda and Brook for a wonderful rally at Westcan. The food, fun and games were great as was the weather.

As you can see in the pictures (click to enlarge, as usual) the scenery at the site was beautiful and we were occasionally entertained by the local Osprey feeding their young.

Great rally guys.
