From the new Prez

As some of you will have already noticed, the roster of Chapter Officers has changed since the elections held at the General Meeting while at the Sandown Rally.  I personally, would like to thank everyone who supported my decision to run as President.  I think that elections went very smoothly, almost everyone elected stepped voluntarily into their position without being coerced.

This past weekend was truly a terrific example of how a “no host” rally can be an amazing success.  The weather was more than accommodating and quite a few of us are wearing sunburns as a result.  The fried chicken provided for the Friday night potluck was certainly complimented by the many delicious dishes produced by attendees.  On Saturday morning, the Burnhams and the Dyers very kindly donated bacon and sausages. With the addition of leftover pancake mix and syrup from the club trailer, a wonderful breakfast was served.  Saturday evening, the steaks, burgers, etc. of choice, were sizzling on the grill and another very good meal was produced. An afternoon of serious and competitive game playing on Saturday turned into a Tournament on Sunday, with an entry fee providing cash prizes for the winners.  Congratulations to Randy Cooper for being overall champion both days and to Linda Verruyt for being the most accomplished lady.  For myself, my family and my close friends, this was a great weekend.  Thank you to all of you who supported it.

Future proposed rallies, currently being co-ordinated but subject to changes are:

Kin Beach, Comox on June 26, 27

Duncan late July or mid August

Easter Seal Camp Shawnigan on September 11, 12

I am still considering and investigating a Gulf Islands tour some time over the summer as well.  Any input re: rallies will be very much appreciated.  Please feel free to email me with any ideas or plans at skew67@hughes.net.

Thank you,

Sandy Quesnel, President

Spring Rally Date Change

Hi All!

The dates of the Spring Rally have changed...many of you let me know that the long weekend was not convenient.  So we started checking other dates and places out!  Just today, we were able to confirm the Sandown Raceway Grounds for the dates of Arrival May 22, 2009 and Departure May 25, 2009.  Some have indicated that 3 nights is too long and others want 3 nights....so here is the deal!  We have booked the 3 nights.....when you book the rally...you need to indicate the number of nights you will be staying.

This will be truly " a no host" rally.  We have volunteers who will put the tents up.  We will put the cooking area up and it will be available for the use of all the members to cook their own meat...... BUT this rally will be providing NO MEALS

As far as, cooking goes, Saturday sounds like a steak night to me!  So bring your steaks to the grill!

We hope this rally is a success but only the members can make it successful!!!  Bring your games and join in the fun!!!  We will be having our Annual General Business Meeting and elections on Saturday morning. If anyone is interested in an Executive Board position, please let me know!

Please email me at akcbalogh@telus.net with your reservation of 2 or 3 nights.  The cost per night will be $10.00.

Please mail your cheque to me (see email), make them payable to Vancouver Islanders.

Hope to see you all in May!

Cheers!
  Andy

Vancouver Islanders meet in Yuma

24 Vancouver Islanders met at Wayne and Laurel's place in Yuma Sunday March first.  The main event of the day was the celebration of Ken & Josie 60th Wedding Anniversary.  You can see the happy couple in the photo's.  A wonderful Pot Luck meal was enjoyed by all.  The weather was spectacular reaching 91 F in the shade out in the patio where the guys were sitting.  It was a cooler 81 in the house where the girls were, go figure?
A great idea and super turnout thanks to the efforts of Andy, Kathie, Wayne, Laurel, Sandy and everyone else who pitched in.
