Spring Rally Date Change

Hi All!

The dates of the Spring Rally have changed...many of you let me know that the long weekend was not convenient.  So we started checking other dates and places out!  Just today, we were able to confirm the Sandown Raceway Grounds for the dates of Arrival May 22, 2009 and Departure May 25, 2009.  Some have indicated that 3 nights is too long and others want 3 nights....so here is the deal!  We have booked the 3 nights.....when you book the rally...you need to indicate the number of nights you will be staying.

This will be truly " a no host" rally.  We have volunteers who will put the tents up.  We will put the cooking area up and it will be available for the use of all the members to cook their own meat...... BUT this rally will be providing NO MEALS

As far as, cooking goes, Saturday sounds like a steak night to me!  So bring your steaks to the grill!

We hope this rally is a success but only the members can make it successful!!!  Bring your games and join in the fun!!!  We will be having our Annual General Business Meeting and elections on Saturday morning. If anyone is interested in an Executive Board position, please let me know!

Please email me at akcbalogh@telus.net with your reservation of 2 or 3 nights.  The cost per night will be $10.00.

Please mail your cheque to me (see email), make them payable to Vancouver Islanders.

Hope to see you all in May!

Cheers!
  Andy

Vancouver Islanders meet in Yuma

24 Vancouver Islanders met at Wayne and Laurel's place in Yuma Sunday March first.  The main event of the day was the celebration of Ken & Josie 60th Wedding Anniversary.  You can see the happy couple in the photo's.  A wonderful Pot Luck meal was enjoyed by all.  The weather was spectacular reaching 91 F in the shade out in the patio where the guys were sitting.  It was a cooler 81 in the house where the girls were, go figure?
A great idea and super turnout thanks to the efforts of Andy, Kathie, Wayne, Laurel, Sandy and everyone else who pitched in.

Hi to all the Vancouver Islanders!

Today Kathie & I went to visit with Laurel & Wayne Macauley at their winter home.  They have volunteered to host a get together at their place.

We are all hoping that anyone in the Yuma area will attend the POT LUCK.  It will be nice to get to visit with you all!

When:   Sunday March 01, 2009, 2:00pm

Where:  14383 East 51st Street, Yuma

What to bring:  Your chairs and drinks.  We also ask that you bring either salad, side dish or dessert. Please let Laurel know what you would like to bring when you RSVP, so we don’t have all one type of salad etc.

Laurel will be providing ham and Kathie will bring chicken.

RSVP to Laurel Macauley by phone 928-345-1549 or by email at w.mac@shaw.ca  ASAP.

To all the Vancouver Islanders in other areas, we hope to see you at the Sandown rally on May 15-18.  I, also, hope that some of you will put the Northwest Area rally in Albany, Oregon on your calendar.  It will be held June 04-07, 2009.  You can enter the Linn County Fair & Expo on June 02 or 03, at no additional rally fees and explore the area.

Hope to see you soon!

Vancouver Islanders 2009 Update

To all our members, a warm hello to all of you no matter where you are this spring. For those of you down south I hope the warm weather finds you and your family safe. To those still North, I hope you have not endured more back pain or muscle pain from shovelling the more than unexpected snow this year. I can only say that for once I actually choose the right time to try out retirement and head south. I don’t miss the rain or snow and actually enjoyed calling my sons and asking them to shovel the white stuff from our driveway. I must say that I do now understand why all of you that have been heading south for the winter have done so, there is nothing like waking up to sun and clear skies everyday. We have been away since mid November and I’m not sure where the time has gone, as one seems to be busy everyday with visiting friends from all over and generally just having a great time. Enough about the wonders of the south and on to the business at hand, our secretary Stella Blogg has booked Sandown Raceway in Sidney for our Spring Rally, arrival date will be the 15th of May 2009 and departing the 18th of May. At this time we still do not have hosts for this rally and are hoping some of the membership will step forward and give it a try. Please let the executive know if you are interested.

I hope to see as many of you at the Sandown Rally as possible, we will be having our Annual general meeting and holding elections for new officers. The following positions require new members because of term limits:

Office of President, National Director and Alternate National Director

The following positions are completing their first term:

Office of Vice President: Wayne Quesnel (current incumbent)

Office of Director: Wayne Hardy (current incumbent)

Anyone interested in any of the above positions please let me know.

Any Vancouver Islanders who are in the Yuma area and would like to get together for lunch or dinner, please e-mail me and I will try to set something up before we all head north again.

Just a reminder, if you haven’t paid your dues ($10.00) for 2009 Stella has asked me to pass on to you all that you please send in your VI dues to her or you can pay at the May Rally. Cheques should be made payable to “Vancouver Islanders”.

In closing, I wish you all good health and safe travels. See you at the May Rally.

Andy Balogh
