SPRING FLING AT SANDOWN PARK

(sumitted by the Bloggs, pictures by Gary Ousey)

A very successful rally was held at Sandown Park, May 26 – 28, 2006. There were 40 coaches attending with a total of 79 people. Special guests were Northwest Area Vice President Bob Gummersall and his wife Sylvia.

Although the weather was not the best, everyone enjoyed themselves.

Friday afternoon a meet and great, under the disguise of a Scavenger Hunt, was held which had many members going from coach to coach to answer the clues.

Happy Hour followed with a great assortment of appies. The Pot Luck Supper was wonderful – such an assortment of food, all delicious! Following dinner, the first of the draws were held and every coach received a prize.

As the weather was not too great, most people retreated back to their coaches after dinner, however, there were the few die-hards who stayed and played Pass the Ace!

Saturday morning the coffee pot was on early and breakfast was served at 8:30. There were lots of sausages and pancakes with fruit and whipping cream as well as fruit salad. After breakfast a General Meeting was held and election of officers, our new members on the Executive include Stella Blogg as Secretary and Cecil Hamilton, Cary White and Joe Blogg as Directors.

On Saturday afternoon the men enjoyed a very informative discussion with Dan Hope, a Technician from Triangle RV. While the men were talking, the ladies headed off to Sidney for a Poker Walk. Judging from the number of shopping bags (especially Rogers’ Chocolates) there was quite a bit of shopping going on! The winner of the Poker Walk was Carolyn Ousey with 4 of a kind (6’s). Carolyn received a lovely tin of Rogers’ Chocolates. The other winners were Carol McAvella, Marian Lutener, Josie Williams and Donna Caspers who received a prize for the Worst Hand.

At Saturday’s Happy Hour many people arrived in their finest fashions from the 50’s & 60’s several Poodle Skirts were seen as well as slicked back hair, t-shirts and rolled up jeans! A Best Dressed competition was held with Bob & Sylvia Gummersall and Sylvia from Triangle RV as the Judges. The winners were Merrilee & Cary White and runners-up were Audrey Hauge and Drew Ralph. Congratulations to all – you looked great!

Saturday’s dinner was Roast Beef done to a turn on the spit thanks to Andy Balogh for an excellent job of cooking the Beef (and almost roasting himself in that tent the coals were still hot the next morning!) Ham was also on the menu along with salads, buns and baked potatoes. Thank you to all the ladies who helped with the preparing of the potatoes and the use of their ovens to cook them! Dessert was carrot cake and an assortment of cheesecakes.

Again, as the weather was cool, only the die-hard Pass the Ace fans stayed outside after dinner!

Sunday morning breakfast featured eggs in a bag, ham, and hash browns. Thanks to everyone for being patient as it took quite a while to cook all those eggs!

After breakfast another draw was held, and again, each coach received a prize. The 50/50 draw also took place and the winner was Marge Hendricks. As well the Ken Williams Award was drawn and the winners were Lee and Barbara Burnham.

Cleanup and taking down of tents followed and by noon the coaches were on their way home.

We sincerely hope that everyone enjoyed themselves. Many, Many Thanks to all who helped with collecting donations, set-up, mealtimes, and cleanup. We greatly appreciated it! It was quite an experience!

Hello everyone,

We hope that you all enjoyed the Rally and had a safe journey home.

We want to thank everyone who helped during the Rally, with set-up, at mealtimes and with the final cleanup and taking down the tents, etc. Your help was greatly appreciated.

As we were the last to leave Sandown, we did a “sweep” of the field just to ensure that it was clear of any litter, etc. We want to thank everyone for leaving the field clean, however, there was one exception. We found two small bags of squished “doggie doo” on the field – it would appear that someone left the bags outside their coach, behind the wheels, and apparently drove off without picking them up. We are sure that this was an oversight, as we all tend to get preoccupied when we are getting ready to “hit the road”.

So, just another reminder to pet owners, please ensure that any “deposits” are disposed of properly!

Thanks again for all your help and we look forward to seeing everyone in Port Alberni!

Joe and Stella Blogg, Andy and Kathie Balogh.
